John 1:18 -> footnote a -> A couple of different scriptures. One say you must be quickened by the spirit in order to see God in the flesh. Another, D&C 84: 22, says you must have power and authority through the priesthood in order to behold the FACE of God. It makes me wonder if you can take that literally and infer that Joseph Smith didn't see the face of God, but just beheld their glory and that fact that the shapes and voices above him were of the personage type and the light was too blinding to actually see anything like a face clearly.
John 1:18 -> footnote c -> Another way of reconciling this verse: JST states that it hasn't ever or will never happen except the person shall bear record of it.
John 17:5 -> Clear statement of premortal life and how we're all different up there and were able to obtain different glories position and characteristics. Then by coming to this earth, even Jesus Christ had to give those up to a certain extent and grow from very humble means. Our souls are the same but our able to let them shine through increases and grows and strengthens by how we live and mature both physically and spiritually.

Luke 1:1-4; John 1:1-18; 17:1-5
Luke 1:1 -> foot note c -> How does "which are most surely believed among us" have a greek translation of "which have been fulfilled." ?
Luke 1:2 -> Was not Luke one of those eyewitnesses and didn't have that intermediary step? Who is "us"?
Luke 1:3 -> Luke was an eyewitness. Is us referring to Luke, Theophilus and possibly other believers?
John 1:4 -> In what sense IS he our light? He gives us light, but what does it mean to be our light? He is our guide and teacher in this world? He was the Word in the beginning. We need the Word, or words of instruction/understanding to make it through this life.
John 1:9 -> Jesus is not just the guide/teacher figure, His influence or light enters us all as we come to this world.
John 1:10 -> footnote d -> "the world knew him not" refers to Isaiah 53:3 where it talks of us esteeming not the messiah. We don't know or recognize the messiah when we esteem him not.
John 1:12 -> footnote a -> In order to receive Him, we need to be humble/teachable. It is not so much as just professes Him as the Christ and believing it but needs us to change or at least view/recognize our level and position below that of Christ's and seek what we can learn from Him.
John 1:16 -> footnote a -> receiving of the His fulness refers to becoming complete or whole through the mercy of Christ
